M-103 Is An Argument From Intimidation

As I watch the news, I see increasingly ominous signs of this country’s accelerating slide into tyranny. The biggest one has got to be the Trudeau government’s anti-Islamophobia motion in the House of Commons, M-103. This is a disturbing attack on freedom of speech by the “Liberals”. The full text of M-103 reads:
That, in the opinion of the House, the government should: (a) recognize the need to quell the increasing public climate of hate and fear; (b) condemn Islamophobia and all forms of systemic racism and religious discrimination and take note of House of Commons’ petition e-411 and the issues raised by it; and (c) request that the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage undertake a study on how the government could (i) develop a whole-of-government approach to reducing or eliminating systemic racism and religious discrimination including Islamophobia, in Canada, while ensuring a community-centered focus with a holistic response through evidence-based policy-making, (ii) collect data to contextualize hate crime reports and to conduct needs assessments for impacted communities, and that the Committee should present its findings and recommendations to the House no later than 240 calendar days from the adoption of this motion, provided that in its report, the Committee should make recommendations that the government may use to better reflect the enshrined rights and freedoms in the Constitution Acts, including the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
Exactly what is meant by a “whole-of-government approach to reducing or eliminating systemic racism and religious discrimination including Islamophobia, in Canada…”? Canada has a huge, intrusive government, reaching every part of the lives of all Canadians. Right down to health care, thanks to our government monopolized system of single-payer socialized medicine. What horrors could these people come up with in the name of reducing or eliminating Islamophobia? This has the makings of a blasphemy law to crush all criticism of Islam. It is an assault upon the very concept of freedom of speech. That it is a motion, rather than a bill, makes it more ominous rather than less. If it were a bill, it would have to go to committees for amendment, it would go through three readings in the House of Commons, it would be voted upon, it would have to go through the Senate. But being a motion, it doesn’t have to go through these steps. it is basically a statement of opinion. It is ultimately an argument from intimidation. It is a trap: anyone who votes against it will be treated as a racist and an “Islamophobe”. The Liberals will use it to beat up on the Conservatives. The Conservatives will crumple under the pressure, and I expect most, if not all, will vote for it. They will justify voting for it on the basis that it is a symbolic vote, that it isn’t a real bill, and that they are being nice to all the peaceful Muslims. But that nearly unanimous or completely unanimous vote will give the Trudeau government carte blanche to pass additional laws crushing freedom of speech, and turbo-charge existing ones. The Liberals have submitted to Islam, by deed if not by declaration.

Comes The Endarkenment

I didn’t know exactly where to start. So I will start by defining my term “Endarkenment.”

I am not the originator of this term. It is a term that deliberately contrasts the Enlightenment. The Enlightenment, also known as the Age of Reason, was the time in the modern era where reason animated the whole of Western Civilization. In the eighteenth century, man’s attention was turned to understanding and living in this world; with reason as his guide, set out to master the natural world. The results were nothing short of world-changing: the Industrial Revolution; the founding of the United States of America; the articulation by John Locke and the Founding Fathers of the individual rights of man; the birth of modern science; and the growth of capitalism.

But here, in 2017, the legacy of the Enlightenment is in peril. The anti-reason forces, that dominated man through most of human history, are once again taking hold in the West. These anti-reason forces are bringing with them war, civil unrest, poverty, and tyranny.  I call the coming times of conflict the Endarkenment. The Endarkenment is marked by the abandonment of reason, the embrace of mysticism, the destruction of value. It will be the legacy of nihilism.

It will herald a time of misery and destruction.

As you read this on your smartphone, your tablet, or your computer, you are employing technology that is the culmination of knowledge that is the Enlightenment’s legacy. But as you view your social media feeds and watch, read, or listen to the news; you will see a disjointed cacophony of stories. You will learn of protests where throngs of university students use free speech to wail that they want to shut down free speech and have “safe spaces” to protect them from being offended. You will hear racists accuse people of racism. You will see Islamic terrorists commit bloody massacres while politicians and media frantically tell you that terrorism isn’t Islamic. You will be told by politicians that you didn’t build that. You will read that you must pay more money and use less energy because the world will end if the climate changes. You will watch violent crowds of rioters destroying property, lighting fires, and beating people up; all the while calling themselves anti-fascists.  You will be warned that firearms are not to be used to defend your family and your own life. You will be admonished that “Islam means peace” and that all your elected representatives are going to commit themselves to fighting “Islamophobia.”

These are all characteristics of the Endarkenment.
